The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Moscow is announcing the position of Translator/Interpreter (English-Russian, Russian-English)to work in the Translation Unit of the Regional Delegation for the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus

Function description:

• Translation of texts on a large variety of subjects (international humanitarian law and other branches of international law, Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, humanitarian action, armed conflicts, forensics, etc.) from English into Russian and from Russian into English.
• Consecutive and simultaneous interpretation from English into Russian and vice versa during events in Moscow and on missions outside Moscow and the Russian Federation.
• Editing/proofreading of texts written in Russian and English.
• Other related duties as required.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Required skills:

• A university degree in English language/modern languages/linguistics.
• Work experience in the fields of translation and interpretation (consecutive and simultaneous) not less than 1 year will be an asset.
• Applicants must have a perfect command of Russian, which should be their native language.
• Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written).
• Mastery of relevant specialized terminology (legal, military, etc.) in both English and Russian is an advantage.
• Knowledge of French is a big plus, knowledge of other languages is an asset.
• Applicants' claims to knowledge of languages must be supported by relevant documentation.

Qualities required:

• Willingness to learn on the job.
• Flexibility, readiness to travel extensively in the Russian Federation and abroad.
• The translator/interpreter may be required to translate confidential documents and may be assigned to sensitive meetings, therefore the ability to exercise discretion and respect confidentiality is paramount.
• Good computer literacy.
• Attention to detail.
• Teamwork ability, punctuality and reliability.
• Ability to work under stress.

Terms and conditions:

• Open-ended contract
• Monthly salary 150’000 RUB before taxes, 13th salary, medical insurance.
