We are looking for an experienced and passionate English teacher practitioner with an outstanding track of records to join the EAL Department at Haileybury Astana School.
Start date: February 2025

Responsibilities:
General:
- Teaching English as an additional language
- Support students’ learning across the curriculum, tailoring support to match learner’s needs.
- To support students to become independent, co-operative and collaborative learners.
- Support students’ access to learning through the effective use of ICT.
- Contribute to assessing students’ progress and support them in reviewing their own learning.
- Identify and remove barriers to students’ learning.
- Create, adapt and customise curriculum materials.
- Support teacher planning. Meeting students’ additional needs
- Support the learning of EAL students
- Promote EAL students’ well-being and resilience.
- Support the transition and transfer of EAL students. Supporting the wider work of the school, especially the English and SEN departments.
- Contribute to and support the regular review of EAL students
Planning, Teaching and Class Management
- Plan and teach according to the departmental schemes of work and programmes of study.
- Set high expectations for pupil behaviour and ensure they are met.
- Provide a clear structure for lessons, maintaining pace and challenge. Use a range of teaching methods to challenge pupils of all abilities and to ensure all pupils make progress.
- Plan opportunities to contribute to the pupil’s personal, moral, social and cultural development e.g. assemblies, academic and themed days etc.
- Work effectively with teaching assistants and technicians as appropriate, ensuring that they are aware of learning objectives and their role in achieving them.
- Establish a safe, supportive, attractive and stimulating learning environment.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording and Reporting
- Assess how well learning objectives have been met and use this assessment to improve specific aspects of teaching.
- Mark and assess pupils’ work according to school and departmental policy, providing constructive feedback and setting targets for pupils’ progress.
- Assess and record each pupil’s progress systematically and use records to ensure that pupils make demonstrable progress.
- Provide written reports relating to the development and learning of pupils as requested.
- Build and maintain co-operative relationships with parents and communicate with them on pupils’ learning and progress. Write detailed and informative reports which highlight how pupils can improve their understanding in your subject area.
Welfare and Discipline Matters
- Monitor the work of class/form pupils, providing guidance, advice and admonishment.
- Write and maintain relevant records for individual student files and write reports.
- Lead Personal Development (PD) tutorial sessions.
- Communicate and consult with parents.
- Participate in, and document, meetings for any of the purposes above.
- Participate in the maintaining of high standards of behaviour and dress of pupils in the classroom and in all school locations and activities.
- Follow Haileybury Astana policies with regard to the health and safety of pupils both on and off the school premises when pupils are under the school’s jurisdiction.
- Take a pastoral interest in pupils in curriculum and extra-curricular activities and around the school environs so that they feel noticed, valued and cared for
Co – Curricular Activities
- Supervise and coach pupils in the after school Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme and the extra-curricular sports and performing arts programmes.
- Work with and support the relevant Olympiad teachers.
- Organise the logistics associated with these programmes as they relate to transport and accommodation.
Safeguarding Health & Safety
Everyone who works at Haileybury Astana has the responsibility for promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children.
Provide thorough risk assessments as required prior to activities and trips.

Experience

Successful experience in working with pupils in the age group you are teaching

Demonstrated experience in inspiring pupils in a stimulating learning environment

Demonstrated experience of using ICT to promote learning

Ability to analyse student data to support student achievement

Demonstrated experience in raising achievement and setting challenging targets

Strong commitment to supporting all aspects of our programme, especially through participating actively in the extra-curricular activities and contributing to the life of the school community

Experience in teaching EAL pupils

Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with British education system

Minimum 3 years’ experience in teaching the subject
Qualifications

Graduate qualified teacher

Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject area

Master’s degree an advantage

CELTA is an advantage
