Core responsibilities

The Assistant/Consultant will be accountable for the successful implementation of specific aspects of the project including:

1. Pre-Production Research and Logistics

• Compile background information on cultural sensitivities, historical context, and current events to guide production teams.
• Work with LHSS team to establish relationships with academics, government counterparts and GHS SMEs for context and potential interviews.
• Obtain necessary permits from national and regional authorities for filming.
• Ensure permissions are secured for all locations.

2. Casting and Local Talent Coordination

• Identify local talent and interviewees, focusing on subjects with compelling stories or expertise relevant to the documentary theme.
• Handle agreements with local participants, ensuring ethical practices and fair compensation.
• Provide translation as needed during field production, ensuring they are briefed on cultural nuances and terminologies relevant to the film.

3. Coordination of Logistics and Resources

• Help Abt team hire local production assistants and technical crew as needed
• Secure accommodations for the crew, ensuring proximity to filming locations.
• Arrange safe, reliable transportation for crew and equipment, especially for remote areas.

4. Post-Shoot Wrap-Up

• Arrange a debrief with local participants and stakeholders to review the experience and gather feedback.
• Assist with post-production translations

Minimum Qualifications:

• Fluency in Russian, English is required and Kazakh proficiency is an advantage.
• Hard working and eager to learn and be part of a motivated team.
• 2 years’ experience in filming/documentary production assistance
• Experience in collaboration with newsroom managers, producers, and crew
• Quick thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Resourcefulness and critical thinking skills
• Strong interest in media and current events
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan

Level of Effort and Period of Performance: The anticipated level of effort for this assignment is up to 30 days from December 2024 through to the end of June 2025.
