Validus is looking for a highly skilled and motivated engineer to lead our platform team. The platform team owns and maintains the core frameworks and tools used within the organisation, drives initiatives for establishing best practices, looks after our AWS infrastructure and ensures that we operate in a secure environment.The platform team is part of the broader technology team working in collaboration with quants, frontend and back-end engineers. Our teams work together to grow our technology platform, Horizon. Horizon comprises multiple applications for trade execution, portfolio management and risk analysis for alternative asset managers in various domains, such as private equity, private debt and real estate.In this role, the Platform Lead will manage a small team of platform engineers, whilst remaining hands-on, building out solutions that underpin the development of the Horizon platform, whilst monitoring and maintaining a set of production applications/services.Key Responsibilities: Manage a team of platform engineers, overseeing the team delivery using AGILE processes, mentoring/coaching, and conducting performance reviews for reports Architect and develop cloud-native services on AWS, in line with a set of best-practices/standards that you will be responsible for up-keeping Collaborate with Quant and other Tech teams, as well as with the wider business, to design and then implement the infrastructure relating to quantitative jobs and analysis, parallelising complex simulations to improve performance whilst also optimising for cost/efficiency Provide strategy and vision for the team, working to break down and complement objectives from wider business and technology team strategies Deliver integrations with 3rd party data providers into our platforms, working with client or vendor technology teams to gather requirements and build solutions Ensure existing a new infrastructure is suitably documented, and maintain high standards of monitoring and observability across our stack Act as expert for AWS and cloud technologies to teams across the business Ensure the platform adheres to top security standards, including OWASP Top 10 compliance, regular vulnerability scanning, package updates, structured approval processes, encryption, backups, and data retention policies Collaborate with corporate IT, legal, and compliance teams to align platform security practices with ISO27001 standards, ensuring that all implemented processes meet regulatory and organizational requirements RequirementsExperience with AWS and IaC. We use a wide range of services, but the ones we deal with the most are Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, API Gateway and Step Functions. Experience with AWS CDK would be beneficial. Experience with Python. Experience with other, lower-level languages (we also use Rust) is also beneficial. Experience with databases. We use MySQL, MongoDB and DynamoDB, but experience with other database technologies would also be valuable. Experience (or interest) in workload orchestration tools such as Airflow, EMR, CloudComposer. Knowledge of various architecture patterns, with experience working on event-driven microservices. Curiosity to explore new technologies. We are constantly looking for potential technologies to improve our platform. Strong communication skills in working with other teams and managing others.
