Teaching Personnel is currently seeking a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to join a dynamic team at a well-regarded school in Exeter. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a positive and inclusive learning environment.About the Role: As an SEN Support Assistant, you will be working closely with children with Autism, supporting them both academically and socially to help them reach their full potential. You will be providing one-to-one and small group support, working with students to engage them in learning, encourage their social development, and ensure their well-being throughout the school day.Key Responsibilities:
Provide tailored support for children with Autism, both inside and outside the classroom.Assist with the implementation of individual learning plans (IEPs) to help students achieve their academic and personal goals.Support children with communication challenges, promoting social interaction and inclusion within the class.Help with managing classroom behaviour and creating a safe, positive, and structured learning environment.Encourage students to engage with the curriculum, providing support where necessary to help them complete tasks.Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other staff members to ensure the best outcomes for students.Assist with personal care and other needs where required, maintaining dignity and respect for all children.Observe and report on student progress, highlighting achievements and areas for development.
The Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with children, ideally in a SEN setting or with Autism, is highly desirable.A genuine passion for helping children with Autism and supporting their development.Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner.Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.The ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children and staff members.A proactive approach, with a flexible attitude to adapt to the needs of individual students.A commitment to supporting students’ emotional and social well-being.An enhanced DBS check or willingness to apply for one.
