Role: Control Room Engineer
Type: Permanent – Shift Pattern
Location: Corsham
Salary: Negotiable + Generous Company Benefits
Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts (0700-1900/1900-0700) with appropriate breaks
Following a 4-4-6 shift pattern.
4 nights, 4 off, 6 on (3 days and 3 nights), 4 off, 4 days, 6 off.
The Company
The Client Side Control Room Shift Engineer will be, reporting to the Control Room Engineering
Supervisor whilst also working with the Campus Technical Facilities Managers and Business
Service Desk team on a day-to-day basis
The principal purpose of this role is to operate Business’s Command and Control Room in ensuring
The engineering systems availability, reliability and overall efficiency in support of continuous 24 x
7 x 365 operations to our customers.
The Control Room Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that, in the event that engineering
system parameters are not met, incident management procedures are correctly implemented.
These include but are not limited to; evaluating the event severity, risk and impact, co-ordinating
With Service Desk team, operate team and supplier partners in responding, containing and
and/or resolving issues arising within defined service level timeframes.
The Role
Duties include, but not limited to:
Supporting Business’s commitment to and compliance of Health, Safety and Environmental standards at all times
Ensuring the engineering systems are proactively monitored via the Building Management and
Electrical Management systems (BMS / EMS) 24 x 7 x 365
Conducting engineering-based assessments on BMS / EMS based alerts, evaluating operational
and customer service risk, reporting validated alarms in accordance with Business Incident
Management (IM) procedures
Reporting issues pertaining to engineering systems availability and /or design efficiency, assessing
technical Design and O&M information and associated schematic drawings.
Support Preferred Maintenance Contractor (PMC) with first line incident response,
containment and resolution, providing technical support and assistance to operational staff in the
progression and closure of incidents.
Operate, monitor and report engineering services activity through Businesss CAFM and Service
Desk systems
Produce and distribute service performance reports on Business’s Technical third-party suppliers
In accordance with agreed service levels
Key tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Co-ordinating / collaborating with Business colleagues and supplier partners ensuring we maintain
a customer first approach to the delivery of facility services at all times
Having a clear understanding of Business Data Centre engineering systems, mechanical and
electrical,fire and public health design standards and engineering systems operation and maintain
comprehensive technical records at all times
Act as first response for Business on incidents, coordinating technical response from maintenance
contractor and liaise directly with service desk, Technical Operations team and
Business SLT.
Having / supporting a clear understanding of both technical standards and emergency engineering
procedures in support of task management and subsequent delivery, maintaining comprehensive
up to dates records at all times
Ensuring technical incident evaluation scripts are accurate, events are validated and where
applicable reported in accordance with Business IM procedures whilst maintaining a
comprehensiverecord of service level agreements at all times.
Maintaining and utilising the Control Room playbook and associated documentation
Supporting Business’s Technical Innovation Hub, using analytical data to support operational
improvements
Developing and updating Businesss Wiki to provide a platform for information sharing on
all campuses.
Operating and maintaining Business’s CAFM system, ensuring that planned, corrective
and reactive tasks are responded to and delivered in accordance with customer
SLAs and Business KPIs
Reviewing planned maintenance records, ensuring that maintenance has been
complete, to the correct standards and that all associated paperwork is in place.
Producing reports on operational availability, efficiency, reliability and overall
service delivery in accordance with contracted services
The Candidate
A recognised level 3 or above trade qualification in a Mechanical Engineering,
Electrical Engineering or Building Services.
Member of a professional engineering institution (CIBSE, IMechE, IET)
2+ years’ experience in critical building engineering services
Demonstratable extensive experience of working with BMS and EMS systems
Demonstratable extensive experience of working with CAFM systems
Attention to detail and a passion for excellence.
To work closely with the engineering & operational teams providing technical support
to deliver the projects to plan.
Demonstratable understanding of technical O&Ms, drawings and description of
operations
Ability to work well under pressure.
Self-motivated, confident and capable to work as an individual but also a strong team
player.
Effective communications skills;
Including the ability to define, explain and present issues and requirements
in a technical manner
Organise and structure information so that it is accessible, intelligible and up
to date.
Confident of own knowledge/ability
Ability to work in confidence, as required, to meet commercially sensitive and secure
business standards.
Thorough and analytical approach to work and ability to finish a job.
The ideal candidate should be able to provide evidence of these traits whether that be in
the form of qualifications or by proof of experiential learning.
