We’re looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to take on a key role shaping the growth of our rapidly growing product.About usSince its launch in 2018, Gener8 has been at the forefront of the “open data” movement: the belief that people should be able to control and be rewarded from their own data. Gener8’s consumer products include a web browser, browser extension, IOS and Android apps. Our products enable people to transparently and willingly share their data with Gener8, whilst preserving their privacy, so that we can create value from it for them.We are growing fast. With more than 230,000 new app downloads over the past few months alone. Every month our desktop browser racks up the equivalent of 250 yrs in time spent browsing on it. As you can imagine, we have great volumes of proprietary data which we can create value from.Gener8 was named “disruptor of the year” in 2022 by the Great British Entrepreneur Awards and our investors include 3 Dragons from BBC’s Dragon’s Den as well as personalities such as the rap star Tinie Tempah, former football manager Harry Redknapp and cricketer Chris Gayle to name a few. In 2023 we met with the Prime Minister at Downing street and were invited to become a member of the Government’s new “Smart Data Council”, shaping the future of data legislation in the UK.This role is a unique opportunity to join a fast growing business that is forging a new category - Personal Information Management Systems (PIMS) - with multi billion £ potential.About the roleWe’re looking for an experienced backend engineer, working on the core technology that powers our platform.A few of the things in our backlog that you could be working on: Extending, improving and optimising our analytics APIs that ingest over 100 million events a month. Creating new data feeds for our commercial partners that deliver valuable data to drive business decisions. Creating brand new APIs and endpoints to support our mobile apps. Working on our e-Receipt data pipeline that extracts purchase data from emails and transforms into structured data. You’ll be working closely with our existing product and engineering team, including Staff backend engineer and Head of Engineering.On the backend we use Go, PostgreSQL and Redis to serve RESTful and gRPC APIs running on Kubernetes, all hosted on GCP. We use GitHub for version control and CI, Jira for tracking tasks and Slack for sending silly GIFs.Responsibilities Building new features, modifying existing ones and fixing bugs as they arise Writing automated tests to keep the quality of our products high Ensuring the smooth operation of our infrastructure through automated monitoring and alerting Documenting the backend APIs that are consumed by the engineering team Working closely with the product team to refine new features and requirements RequirementsThis is the right opportunity for you if you have: 5+ years commercial experience building systems with Go Experience writing RESTful APIs in production environments Experience using some flavour of SQL for data persistence Experience documenting APIs with Swagger / Open API Experience working with event driven systems Experience building cloud native solutions Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes Excellent verbal and written English communication skills Live and work within +/- 3 hours of GMT Benefits Part of a fast growing company where you will have real responsibility and autonomy Stock options, so that you have a slice of the company and share in our success Your choice of computer hardware Annual training and conference budget⛳️ Regular team days out This is your chance to work on a meaningful product that can impact millions of people
